red cabbage & apple salad

In case your local super market has a bag of sliced cabbage in stock. Grab it! With an apple, boiled eggs, and some leftover Fuet. You whip up a salad! In no time

The French Salade de Chou Rouge is probably the closest dish. That comes to my Red Cabbage & Apple Salad. The base of both salads is a d..mn good vinaigrette. Aka salad sauce. The French version is with mustard. Mine is with lemon juice. That will prevent your salad from colouring. So if you have your salad sauce in place, the only thing “to cook” is a couple of eggs 

ingredients

salad

  1. a bag of washed and sliced red cabbage
  2. an apple
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/3 of a fuet (spanish sausage)

 

salad sauce 

  1. 1 cup of Olive Oil
  2. 2 tsp. of Honey
  3. 2 knobs of Garlic
  4. 1 fresh Lemon
  5. Salt
  6. Pepper

alternative ingredients

Fuet ☜☟☞ Chorizo (dry sausage or cold slices of fresh chorizo)

TOOLS

  • a Knife
  • a spoon
  • a fork
  • a Cutting Board
  • a Saucepan
  • a Jar (to store leftover salad sauce)
  • a grater (to grate knob of Garlic)
  • a lemon squeezer 
  • a serving bowl

steps (PREP. & ACTUAL COOKING)

  1. Follow steps to prepare salad sauce
  2. fill saucepan with 2/3 of water
  3. carefully add 2 eggs
  4. turn on heat
  5. bring eggs to boil
  6. turn down heat
  7. and let the eggs simmer for 6 minutes 
  8. turn off the heat
  9. spoon the cooked eggs from the saucepan
  10. and empty saucepan
  11. re-fill saucepan with cold water
  12. give the boiled eggs a cold bath and place them in the saucepan
  13. peal off the skin of the eggs, after you have let them cool off for 3 minutes 
  14. add the naked eggs to the bowl
  15. crush each egg with a fork
  16. until you have made egg crumbles
  17. wash & dry your hands
  18. take 2 hands of red cabbage from store bag
  19. add to bowl
  20. wash apple
  21. and cut apple into thin slices (please do not get rid of nutritious skin)
  22. add slices to the bowl
  23. add salad sauce to the bowl
  24. and stir well
  25. cut fuet into thin slices
  26. add to bowl
  27. finally give all ingredients a good stir with a spoon
