Shrimp Dip

Chayote is a vegetable from the tropics. And the best alternative is a small courgette. A zucchini or tiny yellow squash. That will do great with shrimps & tortilla chips

The chayote (aka mirliton) is a vegetable you will find in the tropics. It has the lightest hue of fresh green. And an appearance that is remarkable. However in Europe, chayotes are not easy to find. And a small courgette, zucchini or tiny yellow squash will do instead. The reason I added this recipe. Is to share an alternative to guacamole sauce


  1. 1 courgette, zucchini or small yellow squash
  2. 1 cup of shrimps
  3. a bunch of fresh parsley
  4. 100 grams of cooked ham (in thin slices)
  5. 1/2 tomato
  6. 1 small red onion
  7. 1 knob of Garlic
  8. 1/2 jalapeño pepper
  9. 2 tbs. of olive oil
  10. a bag of tortilla chips

alternative ingredients


parsley ☜☟☞ cilantro

courgette ☜☟☞ zucchini or squash

cooked ham ☜☟☞ slices of smoked chicken filet

jalapeño pepper ☜☟☞ small green pepper



  • A knife 
  • A spoon or spatula
  • A cutting board
  • A sieve
  • A saucepan
  • A skillet or casserole
  • A clean kitchen towel
  • A bowl with a lid
  • A serving bowl


  1. Wash parsley
  2. Dry parsley with kitchen towel
  3. Cut very last end of parsley stems 
  4. Remove those ends
  5. Cut parsley florets and stems fine 
  6. Fill 1/4 of your Saucepan with water
  7. When boiling, add shrimps
  8. Wait until the moment water is boiling again
  9. Remove pan from heat
  10. Sieve shrimps
  11. Add shrimps to a bowl 
  12. Close bowl with lid or plate
  13. Undo onion from skin
  14. Cut onion into little cubes
  15. Cut slices of cooked ham into small squares
  16. Wash & try tomato
  17. Slice into tiny cubes
  18. Wash  & dry jalapeño pepper
  19. Cut it in half (over its length)
  20. Remove its seeds
  21. Wash your hands 
  22. Make sure you do not touch your face in the upcoming hour! I always forget and pay the price with stingy eyes
  23. Cut 1/2 of the pepper fine
  24. Remove skin of knob of garlic
  25. Slice it open with knife
  26. And try to get the root with the tip of your knife
  27. Slice the root into tiny pieces
  28. Turn on heat
  29. Pour oil in skillet or casserole
  30. When you smell the oil
  31. Add onion, pepper, tomato, ham, garlic and shrimps in one go
  32. Act fast and stir well
  33. The moment you see juice mix with the hot oil
  34. Remove skillet or casserole from the heat
  35. Slide the lot into a bowl
  36. And serve tepid with tortilla chips
